Delivery almost anywhere in Crete
Heraklion city is the largest on the island and home to the main airport and port. Most distances you will find online for areas, have Heraklion as the starting point as it is located in the middle of the island, on the North coast. Apart from being a bustling city, Heraklion has hidden pearls among its modernities. The first to come across, is usually the awe-inspiring Venetian fortress which embraces the port. Fishing and sailing boats line the curved seafront and visitors can walk all the way to the lighthouse (approx. 2km) alongside the locals who will be walking their dogs or jogging. Once in the centre of the city, the Morosini fountain, Agios Titos church and the Loggia building are just some of the places to tick off one’s bucket list, all of them interesting from both historical and architectural aspects. For those intrigued by museums, there are three gems to visit: i) the Historical museum, covering more recent history of Crete, ii) the Archeological museum with antiquities such as the Phaistos disc and iii) the Natural History museum to get acquainted with the island’s flora and fauna. Knossos Palace is also considered a must but has been the topic of much debate as there are advocates of its reconstruction and those who oppose the notion that it reflects the reality of those times. For those who wish to visit, it is located approx. 5-6km from the city centre and easily reached by car. In terms of cultural history, Heraklion is hometown (and location of many of his stories) to famous and controversial writer Nikos Kazantzakis. His grave can be found on one of the highest spots of the venetian walls surrounding the old city, a perfect stroll for a sunny day if you are looking to both explore and be inspired.

If one is looking for the closest beaches to the city, these would be found in the nearby area of Ammoudara. However, if time in the city is limited, it may be preferable to explore the backstreets of the old town and enjoy a meal in one of the many restaurants packed with locals. When looking for an almost exclusively beach holiday, most visitors opt for the resorts situated between Hersonissos and Heraklion, namely Anissaras, Analipsi, Kokkini Chani and Gouves. All of these run alongside the beachfront and offer a wide variety of hotels and apartments, bars and restaurants for a relaxing vibe during one’s holiday. Of these, the largest and most noteworthy is the village of Gouves, situated at the foot of Mount Ederi. The village is split into two parts, Kato (lower) Gouves near the sea and Pano (upper) Gouves towards the mountains. In Ano Gouves, sit and enjoy a Greek coffee amid the locals before exploring the Cave of Agia Paraskevi and in Kato Gouves, be sure to visit the church of St. Constantine situated among a small pine forest and location to many wedding ceremonies!
